“An Autumn Evening in the Garden” Brings Local
Farms and Top Chefs Together

CDCG benefit helps increase awareness of NYS growers and features regions best chefs

               Capital District Community Gardens (CDCG) and Chef Larry Schepici of Tosca hosted the 2nd annual culinary extravaganza, “An Autumn Evening in the Garden” this past Sunday, October 26th at Tosca in Troy, NY.  The event featured the talents of 15 of the best chefs from the area serving tantalizing dishes with produce, meat and cheese from 20 local farms.

            More than 80 people attended the event raising $7,000 for CDCG’s urban greening and growing programs.  In addition, the event helped to broaden connections between Capital Region restaurants and local farmers who produce top notch products right in our own backyards.

            Participating in the event were Chef Michael Cohen - Chez Mike, Master Chef Luc Pasquier - Jack’s Oyster House, Chef John Marzilli - Salty’s Pub & Bistro, Chef Mark Graham - MezzaNotte, Chef Yono Purnomo - Yono’s, Chef Mike Nicoli - The Century House Restaurant, Master Chef Swen Boehm – EATS Gourmet Marketplace, Chef Dominique Brialy – The Epicurean, Chef Brenda Jean – MJ’s on the Avenue, Chef Beth Duval – Illium Café, Chef Paul Dolan – Capital Region BOCES, Chef Brian Palazzolo – Classe Catering, Chef AJ Jayapal – Albany Country Club, Chef Jennifer Hewes - Café Madion, and Chef Larry Schepici – Tosca.

            Participating farms included Hawthorne Valley Farm, Threshold Farm, Nettle Meadow Organic Farm, Hicks Orchard, Indian Ladder Farms, Mack Brook Farms, Slack Hollow Farm, Little Field Farm, Tarbox Farm, Pleasant Valley Farm, Mole Patch Farm, Denison Farm, Bornt Family Farm, Morning Fog Farm, Roxbury Farm, Little Seed Garden, Wild Hive Farm, Cool Whisper Farm, The Farm at Millers Crossing, Meadowbrook Farms and Wiltbank Farms.

            Exquisite desserts were provided by Crisan Bakery & Edible Art Gallery, spirits were provided by Franklin’s Tower, wine by Cascade Mountain Winery and Brookview Station Winery, dance by Lorraine Michaels Dance Studio and music by Neil Brown Trio.

Capital District Community Gardens is a regional nonprofit community service organization that has been helping local residents improve their neighborhoods through community gardening and urban greening programs for more than 30 years. CDCG is dedicated to growing stronger communities through horticultural projects in the inner city and currently manages 48 cooperative neighborhood food gardens.  The Veggie Mobile, brings fresh produce, at an affordable price, into low-income, inner-city neighborhoods in our community.
