Welcome to Capital District Community Gardens
(CDCG) of upstate New York. Established in 1975,
CDCG is a private non-profit community service
organization that has been helping residents of
Albany, Rensselaer, and Schenectady Counties improve
their neighborhoods through community gardening and
urban greening programs for more than 30 years.
We’re dedicated to working with people to foster
self-sufficiency through the rewards of gardening,
helping families cut their living costs by growing
food locally, transforming vacant lots into
productive neighborhood garden spaces, and
beautifying urban areas through landscaping and
street tree programs.
With a full-time staff of seven, five part-time
employees, plus interns and volunteers, CDCG manages
48 cooperative neighborhood food gardens in Albany,
Cohoes, Latham, North Greenbush, Rensselaer,
Schenectady, and Troy, in New York’s Capital Region.
Capital District Community Gardens also organizes
annual street tree plantings for the cities of Troy,
Cohoes, Scotia, Green Island, and Rensselaer and
works with local municipalities and nonprofit
organizations to implement a wide range of urban
greening projects, enhancing our region's cities.
Since April 2007, we have been operating the Veggie
Mobile- a mobile produce market that is making fresh
produce more affordable and accessible for low
income, inner city residents in our region.
