It’s time to start thinking about your garden. This class will help you begin! Learn important tips about:

  • Garden planning and layout

  • Soil types, and how to create great soil

  • Using compost

  • Digging and tilling

  • Planting: how and when

  • Garden maintenance

Starting Plants from Seeds Indoors
Learn all the necessary steps to growing your own seedlings

  • Proper containers

  • Lighting

  • Thinning out

  • Possible diseases and how to avoid them

 Gardening for Beginners and Just-Past- Beginners: Part 2
This class covers the important next steps to ensure a bountiful harvest. Learn about:

  • pH and soil pH balance

  • Nutrients and fertilization: how to read a fertilizer bag

  • Proper watering methods & tricks

  • Pests & pest control

  • Weed control

 Why Organic? And How?
What?! No Miracle Grow?! Learn how to produce a plentiful harvest with simple techniques that protect the health of both your family and our gardens. The class will cover:

  • Why Organic is important for CDCG and for you

  • How to use compost and other organic fertilizers to build strong soil

  • Diversity and companion planting

  • Organic mulches

  • Pest management

 The Healthy Food Garden
Gardening gets you outside, exercising, and eating home-grown food—all good things! But certain fruits and vegetables contain more vitamins and nutrients than others. In this class, we’ll identify those super-healthful foods and discuss how to grow and cook them. Recipes and food samples will be provided.

 Identifying Insects and Critters
Know your friends…and your enemies. This class will teach gardeners how to identify and naturally manage various bugs, worms, and other critters commonly found in garden spaces.
