Fall Demo Classes
September-October 2009

The end of summer doesn’t have to mean the end of fresh homegrown produce! Join us in the gardens this fall for tips on extending your harvest, improving your soil, and preparing for next season.

All classes are hands-on and will include participatory demonstrations of gardening techniques.  Bring a friend and come prepared to dig in!

Keep Growing III
It’s not too late to add to your garden!  Learn about quick-growing and fall-hardy crops that can be planted in early September.  Free seedlings for all attendees.

Cover Crops
Let the plants do the work while you relax this winter!  Cover crops are one of an organic gardener’s most valuable tools for improving the soil.  Learn when, what, and how to use them.

Season Extension Growing
This class will cover simple materials and techniques that can help keep your garden productive right through the fall and into the early winter months.  Demonstrations will include the use of floating row covers, cloches, mulches, and more.

Fall Soil Enrichment
Do the work now to start off on the right foot next year!  CDCG’s garden educator will demonstrate how to put a garden to bed for the winter with a combination of compost, mulch, and cover crops for healthier soils in the spring.  We will also discuss soil testing and balancing pH.

Planting Garlic
October is the ideal time for planting garlic.  Learn about garlic varieties, planting techniques, and mulch – as well as tips for a successful harvest next summer.
