Try a Garlic Cocktail

Swift & 7th gardener, Allene Gamble tells us one of her secrets to prolonged good health is a daily tonic prepared with garlic that she mixes up a quart at a time. She uses: a dozen or so garlic cloves chopped & lightly steamed, 2 - 3 cups of water, a splash or two of apple cider vinegar. Let it steep in the fridge. Drink a few ounces each day. When the liquid is gone, use the garlic for cooking. Daily garlic intake can help to regulate blood pressure, cleanse the small intestine, and promote overall good health. Be sure to toss in a few cloves when preparing meals. It’s good stuff that’s good for you!

Improve Your Mental Health with Plants

Beat the winter doldrums by investing in some greenery. Better yet, rig up some flourescent lights and you can grow all kinds of neat plants like herbs, lettuce and other greens, and all sorts of beautiful flowering plants. The lights should be set on a timer that stays on 12-16 hours a day. This extra light in your home will also help cheer you up during the long winter months.

Storing Tender Bulbs

If you are storing summer bulbs (like gladiolus, acidanthera & freesia) over the winter, try using an egg carton. You can fill it with a dozen or more bulbs and write the name of the varieties right on the carton. Plus, the carton keeps different bulbs from getting mixed together and provides good ventilation while the individual egg cells prevent mold from spreading from bulb to bulb.
