Our Vision

Educating and engaging the community in the value of gardening and urban greening for the lives of cities and their citizens -- this is our mission at Capital District Community Gardens (CDCG).

Growth is a natural part of life, and gardening is one means to explore and cultivate this phenomenon. Not only relaxing and rejuvenating, gardening is also a practical means to provide nutritious food for one's family. For three decades, CDCG has created an opportunity for residents to reap the numerous benefits from community gardens and other urban renewal projects.

Our goals are to:

• Preserve and conserve natural resources and the environment;
• Beautify urban environments through greening, landscaping, and street tree programs;
• Promote vegetable gardening, so as to provide for nutrition, physical fitness, and family recreation;
• Promote volunteerism, to aid in the development of a sense of community by working together cooperatively;
• Educate communities in the field of gardening and urban greening and to provide horticultural skills training; and
• Cooperate with selected research activities in related and appropriate fields.
